Driving East from Seaton:

7 miles east of Seaton, and into Dorset, is the resort of Lyme Regis, famous as the location for the film " A French Lieutenants Woman". As well as the famous Cobb enclosing the harbour, Lyme Regis also has a sandy beach, Marine Aquarium and much interesting architecture to admire amid the narrow town streets. A lovely little river runs inland through the town and this can be followed on foot for quite a distance - so peaceful!

For the more active the coast path from Seaton to Lyme Regis cuts through the undercliff with its unique flora and fauna. Many books have been written on this beautiful nature walk - one of which we provide for your use in our holiday home, together with a local video produced by the Tourist Board.

Lyme Regis is also famous for it's fossils - "The rocks around Lyme Regis and Charmouth are famous for fossilised remains such as a beautiful fish that lived in a tropical sea that once covered the area in the early Jurassic period". Several Fossil Shops are to be found in Lyme Regis and Charmouth. They contain both local fossils and geological specimens from around the world.

Further east beyond Bridport & West Bay the B3157 passes over the cliffs that edge the heritage Dorset coast and provide spectacular views.

Close to the village of Abbotsbury can be found both the lovely Sub-Tropical Gardens and the Abbotsbury Swannery with it's colony of nesting mute swans. The Swannery provides an excellent centre where children can learn all about swans.

Weymouth with it's excellent sandy beach, safe bathing, and numerous family attractions is some 35 miles east of Seaton. Many local and International boat trips can be caught from Weymouth harbour. Just outside of Weymouth (on the way in from Seaton) you will find Bennetts Water Gardens. A beautiful garden of water lily ponds and aquatics.

Beyond Weymouth and just outside Wimbourne, you will find a beautiful and unusual garden to visit. This is Knoll Gardens - specialist growers of grasses & perennials.
